RE: To file a claim or not to file a claim that is the question

As for your blowout, lotsa luck with that claim. How so? I had a blowout on a Class A MH that involved parts of the departing tire tread wiping out structure and wiring on the underside. My insurance policy paid in full for all of the repairs. You are absolutely correct--if you have a blowout and the carcass of the tire damages your rig by flying into it, you have a legitimate comp claim. If you lose control and damage the unit either by striking the pavement or another fixed object--it is a collision claim. Covered loss all the way--except for the tire, unless you ran over something to cause the blowout. Yes, but both of you are forgetting the fact that he's already repaired it. Where's the proof of loss as far as the insurance company is concerned, especially without any police report? I still say lotsa luck on that claim.

RE: To file a claim or not to file a claim that is the question

Well I didn't, and I don't! I can't see why the police would ever have to be involved if all I do is cut a corner in a parking lot too close and scrape the side of the RV against a sign. And for a blowout, once again, why would law enforcement even give a ****. Thanks for your so-helpful response! In SOME states it is against the law for a body shop to do repairs without a police report (I know of 2 personally). Check YOUR state before you take anyone's response as gospel. As for your blowout, lotsa luck with that claim. As for my "so-helpful" response --- if you don't want them don't ask for them!

RE: To file a claim or not to file a claim that is the question

If you didn't file a police report for each incident, you should know the answer.

RE: Registering Motorhome

If you live in Alabama and keep the MH in Alabama, you need to register it in Alabama. Exactly. The only way 'around it' would be to get a wholesale automobile dealers license in Alabama. You are not required to have a store-front nor a lot, and you have to carry insurance anyway. Look into the cost of it and you may be pleasantly surprised. That way you insure under a blanket policy, can run dealer tags on any vehicles, and never pay sales tax or registration fees on anything you buy. There is no minimum number of vehicles you have to buy and sell in a year. Worth checking out.

RE: time to replace aging tires?

8-year old tires need to be replaced regardless of mileage or tread depth.

RE: Winnebago Journey 32T

We bought a brand new 2003 Journey 32T end-year '03 and kept it for just shy of 20,000 miles. NEVER had to go back for any issues other than routine oil changes. We found it to be of excellent quality, the BEST floorplan (we HATE bathrooms you walk-through -- don't have one at home and didn't want one in our motorhome!), and very easy to dive, handle, and park. Cummins 300hp was adequate even when we were towing our Honda Pilot toad. Averaged 10mpg with the toad -- just shy of 11mpg without. I would highly recommend the unit. Good luck to you!

RE: Camping at Wal Mart

Was it just us picking bad Wal Marts to camp at or do all Wal Marts clean their parking lots on a nightly basis? We stayed at Wal Marts in Kansas, Illinois, and West Virginia. All of them sent a truck mounted street sweeper around the entire lot at around 2 am. It was a noisy contraption that went on for an hour or so, but not too bad. Of course, then he got to our trailer. Since we were there, he couldn't drive and sweep those spots. They parked and idled their sweepers right behind our trailer and proceeded to get out the gas powered leaf blower. Apparantly they are very thorough because it took over 10 minutes to blow the parking lot clean under our truck and trailer. I watched as they did the same to all the others in the lots. Did we pick bad Wal Marts or is this common. We called all the Wal Marts ahead of time to make sure overnighting was allowed and asked where in the lot to park, so I don't think it was just their attempt to discourage overnighting. Seriously now, did you post this trying to be funny? SURELY no reasonable & prudent person would have the NERVE to complain about a business (get that --- BUSINESS, not CAMPGROUND), sweeping their lots at night when the store is either closed or lightly patronized, while they were "CAMPING" there. Honestly, how bizarre! To avoid this happening again, try a campground (they're made for camping, you know). Personally I've never had a problem with either a sweeper or blower at any campground I've ever stayed at. But, if you did indeed post this in an attempt to be humorous, I enjoyed the chuckle!....:C

RE: This Flying J ..Nasty..Nasty

I want to thank all those who took time to reply. I will go to the FJ web site and file a complaint.:S What for?:H You're not going back, remember? I'd file a complaint even if I was never going back. Corporate needs to know WHY they lost him as a customer, and tweak the operation so others don't follow suit. For every person that complains and doesn't return, there are usually 10 that do NOT complain, but still never return. Just good business.

RE: This Flying J ..Nasty..Nasty

Far and away the worst offenders among gasoline stations are Raceway and RaceTrac stations Again not necessarily true. I gas up once a week on my daily commute at Racetrac in St. Petersburg and also the one in Brandon FL and both are clean, well kept, courteous, and their fuel prices are consistently lower than the majors. This debate is clearly subjective and what may be an issue for some is not always an issue for others. Once again I would suggest that if you have problems with a place complain, take pictures and post them and in some way verify your claims. Otherwise you are just posting YOUR opinion. Your observations are great, but you only site TWO stations. My observations are derived from SCORES of stations. It makes a big difference. Look at the big picture, not just in your own backyard.

RE: This Flying J ..Nasty..Nasty

I'm on the road a lot, and buy a lot of gasoline for my car. Far and away the worst offenders among gasoline stations are Raceway and RaceTrac stations. NASTY!!! I guess they'll just sell a franchise to anybody who's got the $$$, without regard for how they'll keep up the place. I now avoid them. Gasoline stations OR fuel stations do NOT have to be pig pens. Too many of them are, and it's not only unsightly and irritating (lack of supplies/unkept supplies) but it's hazardous. Too many choices to have to settle for those franchisees who just don't give a flip.

One, yes one, bad experience at a FJ and you assume all other FJ's are the same way? He didn't say that. Read the post. He said he'd avoid THAT Flying J. Don't twist it around ---

RE: Couldn't resist the 0%

forgive me for asking, but would you mind sharing what they gave you for the durango? Ive been chomping at the bit to buy a new tundra especially with the 0%, about 9 months ago the dealer only offered me $4500 for my 2001 suburban, the blue book value was right around $10000. Throw away any blue books, black books, or any color books in this market. As a dealer I can tell you that the only 'book' that has any significance whatsoever right now is the dealer's checkbook --- the market on big gas guzzlers is horrible right now (if it exists at all). If they offered you half of bluebook consider yourself lucky. I know dealers that will not even go that far. And, Durango's are notorious for exceptionally poor fuel economy. The earlier 318's and 360's were just gas drinkers, and the marginally more fuel-efficient 4.7 is just proving to be not near as good of an engine as its predecessors.

RE: This is great...

Im embarrassed to say, I have no idea if its against the law in Texas, or period. Anyone want to chime in, or is it a state-by-state thing? Against the law? Not sure. Just plain STUPID? You bet!

RE: Best way to sell a trailer in this economy?

Be careful with Craigslist, as there are plenty, and I do mean plenty, of bogus ads on it, especially for higher-ticket items. Plus the number of pictures is limited and their search feature is almost worthless. Plus, you're limited to advertising/shopping one geographic area at a time. I guess if you've got a stove in Denver it might be fine, but for a major purchase, I avoid it like the plague. Free, and barely worth that. Use the more reputable sites and your results will be substantially better.

RE: Best way to sell a trailer in this economy?

You'll need to be well below book to generate any interest, Ebay or otherwise. It will sell. Everything will sell. BUT just remember one thing -- it won't sell until the price is right for the current market conditions. So, throw away any dillusions of book value or anywhere close to it. Advertise it and set a price. Base your initial price on the low end of what others are asking for similar units. If you've had no activity in a couple of weeks, make your first price reduction, and keep on (as necessary) every couple of weeks. Eventually you will hit the right price for the market, and it will sell. Don't wait too long between price reductions, because 'fresh' merchandise in the marketplace becomes very stale if drawn out into a long tedious process of advertising.
